When you become a mom, your priorities change. You’re not longer the most important person in your life, your new addition is. The moment you hold them for the first time you swear to yourself that you will always do the best that you can for them, which is why a lot of parents put their needs on the backburner and focus on their children’s needs instead. When it comes to money, you most probably are always looking for ways to cut costs and make savings, to make your money go that little bit further, like all moms are.

This means that when it comes to doing up an area of your home, such as your bedroom, for instance, you naturally want to make as many savings as possible. While it’s good to cut costs where you can, it’s important to realize that there are some things that it’s fine to save on and others that you should splurge on. Sometimes, by splurging you can actually save yourself money in the long-run, so it’s worth it. Take your flooring in your bedroom, for instance. If you opt for carpet it’s cheaper than hard flooring, but it won’t last as long or wear as well, so you will end up replacing it a lot sooner than you would replace hard flooring, which means that carpet costs more in the long run.

Without further ado, below is a list of things that you should save or splurge on when it comes to doing up your bedroom.

Save on: Furniture

Furniture is one of the things that you should save on when doing up your bedroom or any area of your home for that matter. This doesn’t mean buying cheaply made pieces of MDF or plastic furniture, what it means is picking affordable real wood pieces for low prices, either online or second-hand. Furniture doesn’t need to be expensive to fit with the design and style of your bedroom or to do the job it’s intended for, so it’s worth trying to save as much money as possible on it. That way you can put any money that you save into paying for another part of the update.

Splurge on: Bedding

Although you can pick up various designs and style of bedding for low prices, what you don’t want to do is buy budget bedding that’s not of a good quality and won’t be comfortable for you. The fact is that synthetic bedding can come cheap, but it’s not comfortable, doesn’t wash well, and won’t last for long, whereas cotton bedding tends to be more comfortable, washes well, and stands the test of time. It’s a much better option to get your bed linen and pillows from a luxury company like Plumeria Bay when it’s on sale, rather than buying it super cheap from a discount home store. As that way, you know that you’re getting good quality bedding. It might cost you more but at least it will last well and stand the test of time, plus it will also be more comfortable.

Save on: Paint

When it comes to buying paint for your room, don’t spend a lot buying a branded paint, as non-branded budget paint works just as well. Paint is paint, so whether you buy budget paint or high-quality branded paint, it won’t make a difference. So paint is one thing that you can save money on and not worry about doing so. Whether you want to paint your room white or add a little color to it with a pastel hue, there’s sure to be a budget-friendly paint available that you can use for it, allowing you to keep costs nice and low.

Splurge on: Mattress

If there’s one thing that you splurge on, let it be your mattress. The fact is that cheap mattresses can not only damage your back and cause you not to sleep well, but they also don’t stand the test of time. If you want to ensure that you’re able to get a good night’s sleep and aren’t wasting money on a cheap mattress, then it pays to buy a good quality one. It might cost you more, but if it means that it will last well and be comfortable for you, giving your back and neck the support it needs, it’s worth splurging on it.

Save on: Rug

Every bedroom needs a rug; it adds color and style to the space. When it comes to picking a rug, you could spend a few dollars or hundreds, depending on what your budget is. The truth is that budget-friendly rugs can look quite expensive, so when it comes to picking a rug for your bedroom redesign, make sure to save as much money as possible on it. You would be amazed at the rugs you can pick up for a low price; it’s just a case of knowing where to look to get the best deal on them, that’s all. For budget-friendly rugs that look more expensive than they are, the best places to look are online and in your local budget-friendly home store. You will be amazed at just how nice budget-friendly rugs can look.

Splurge on: Curtains

You might think of curtains as being a budget-friendly buy, and they can be, but if you want curtains that will last well and create the right look, it’s worth splurging. Say, for instance, you want blackout curtains, while you could line ordinary curtains with blackout material, they never seem to work as well as they could do. So when it comes to your curtains (or blinds), it’s best to invest in good quality ones, as that way you know that they will do the job. Ideally, you want to ensure that any curtains that you pick are easy to wash and dry, so that should they get dirty you can have cleaned without worrying that cleaning them will ruin them.

Save on: Accessories

When it comes to picking out accessories for your bedroom, this is one thing that it is super easy to save on. You see, there are plenty of stores that sell a selection of smart, stylish accessories perfect for using in bedrooms that are low-priced and budget-friendly. There are various high street stores, as well as an array of online stores to choose from when it comes to choosing accessories from, so you’ve got plenty of choice in terms of the prices that you’re willing to pay. The great thing about accessories is that even cheap designs can make a big impact on the look and feel of the space. It’s about being picky about the pieces that you buy and only investing in pieces that fit the style and design of your room. If you’re stuck for accessory ideas, sites like Pinterest and We Heart It can be really useful as they’re packed full of inspiration and ideas, so are worth taking the time to have a browse of.

When it comes to doing up your bedroom, it’s easy to spend a lot of money on it. However, the good news is that there are plenty of ways that you can save money when it comes to redesigning your bedroom, it’s just a case of knowing what to save and when to splurge, as explained above. There are some items that it’s fine to save on, while there are others that you really should splurge on, such as your mattress, for instance, as the last thing you want is to sleep on a low-quality mattress and develop a back problem.
