Taking a Summer Break the Cheap Way

The Summer holiday season will soon be upon us, and you might be worrying that you can’t afford to take a break. But there are plenty of ways to do it cheaply - here’s how!

Fly Budget-Budget airlines are great options. And if you’re trying to stick to a tight budget, it’s the only option you should consider. You’ll be wasting your money if you go with an expensive airline company. A lot of people waste their money on travel, but that’s not what your money should be going on. Getting there is a purely functional task, so go for the cheap option!

There’s actually not much difference between the big airlines and the budget ones nowadays. Some of the budget airlines actually win awards for consumer satisfaction. Long gone are the days when budget airlines were seen as poor and uncaring about customers.

Get Creative with Accommodation- The biggest drain on your finances when taking a holiday is your accommodation. If you overspend on where you stay, your budget can quickly go down the pan and your dream of a cheap holiday will be gone with it. So, make sure you look for cheap and innovative ways to save money on your accommodation.

You could save massively if you take the decision to camp. This might not appeal to everyone, but it can be a great idea if you need to find a way to spend virtually nothing on your trip. Alternatively, you could visit HouseTrip and find an apartment in a city like London to make staying in an expensive area a bit cheaper.

Seek Alternative Locations- One way to cut the costs when going on holiday is to find locations that are off the beaten track. If you find a great location that not many tourists have yet discovered, you should be able to find a good deal. But if you stick to the tried and tested destinations, you might find yourself paying bigger prices.

There are plenty of seaside locations in small countries that you probably haven’t considered before. For example, why not try Croatia, Vietnam or Malta? They are just as beautiful as Spain and Southern France, but you can take a holiday there at the fraction of the price.

Remember, Free Things Can be Fun- Once you’re at your destination, it’s quite possible to spend money on nothing other than food and drinks if you get the location right. Pick somewhere that has plenty to explore and do. If you’re staying in a big city, there should be plenty of free attractions like museums and galleries to keep you busy.

If you’re at a seaside resort, you’ll probably spend a lot of time at the beach, which is a great way to save money as it’s completely free. Make sure you explore the towns and cities nearby too. Walking the streets and exploring the town can be a great way to get a feel for a place you’ve never been to before.

Having a Summer break doesn’t have to be expensive, just make sure you find the best ways to cut costs and let these ideas help you.
